Process Changes
The new method of marking and registering the UII will allow process improvements to support the mission of operations and field maintenance personnel, including improved logistics, parts management, operational readiness, efficiency, and timeliness.
IUID Benefits to the Operations and Field Maintenance
The goal of IUID is to reduce the logistics burden, by ensuring that you have the right goods, at the right time, in the right place. By using UII as a link between all available data sources, operations and maintenance personnel will have access to information and data that will be able to:
- Reduce human error in inventory control
- Lower item management cost
- Improve item availability
- Reduce frustrated freight
- Increase asset visibility and traceability
- Improve inventory management and strategic purchasing
- Modernize business practices
Additionally, IUID will enable serial number tracking of items which provides the capability for analytics that will:
- Provide data for repair/replace cost benefit analysis
- Identify failure trends across a population
- Identify failure trends for a single item
Program Updates:
Program Updates will be posted when available. The Services and programs will need to determine how to best implement IUID and take advantage of the item level information that it enables. In some instances, it may require changing the data capture/entry processes. Within operations, electronic data capture can improve such processes as inventory; shipping and receiving; failure tracking and analysis; and predictive maintenance and analytics. In other instances, it may require changes to information technology in order to capture, report, and use the data. Processes should be reviewed in light of the IUID-enabled capabilities and re-engineered to take advantage of the benefits IUID can bring.
