AIT/AIS Integration
The Services will need to determine how AIT and AIS will be integrated within their operations and legacy infrastructure as part of their program planning processes. Ultimately, once the integration process is complete, and the majority of items are marked, Operations and Maintenance personnel will be able to use the Data Matrix as a link to access all available information about an item, as well as ensuring more accurate data. One of the major considerations in the AIT/AIS integration process is how the data will be read from the mark. A Unique Item Identifier (UII) is a data marking affixed to each item encoded in a two-dimensional (2D) Data Matrix that can only be read by a 2D scanner. UIIs cannot be read using an ordinary linear barcode laser scanner. The following link will take you to DAU’s Special Interest Area, where DAU has begun to identify solutions providers for AIT.
